What TH Niramit AS is

TH Niramit AS is one of the 13 National Fonts of Thailand — a four-style Thai text face designed by the Aksaramethi team (Phairot Piamprachakphong and Bowon Chonradon), released in 2007 and distributed free by SIPA and the Department of Intellectual Property. It carries the “TH” prefix that marks the government’s royalty-free document set, and it ships in Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic.

Niramit (นิรมิต, “created” or “conjured”) is one of the readable text members of the National Font family rather than a decorative face. Where TH Sarabun New became the default for formal correspondence, Niramit AS gave Thai offices a second document-grade option with a slightly softer, more open personality for reports, handouts and internal publications.

One point saves confusion. Google Fonts hosts a later typeface simply called Niramit, a redrawn multi-weight OFL family. Character design and tone

TH Niramit AS is a looped Thai text face with even, near-monolinear strokes and open counters tuned for continuous reading at document sizes. Its consonant heads are drawn cleanly enough to survive printing and photocopying, the same durability brief every National Font was built to meet.

The tone sits a step warmer than the strict neutrality of Sarabun. Terminals are calm, the rhythm is regular, and the face reads comfortably across long passages without drawing attention to itself. Thai tone marks and vowel signs are placed at a consistent weight so a ไม้เอก or สระอี stays legible above body text.

The Latin companion is a plain humanist sans matched in size to the Thai, keeping bilingual paragraphs even in colour — useful for the mixed Thai-English reports that Thai institutions produce constantly.

Weights and availability

TH Niramit AS ships four cuts — Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic — the standard National Font loadout, distributed as TrueType through f0nt.com. There is no light or display weight; like every SIPA original it was scoped as a document face, not a branding system.

Download it from the f0nt.com National Fonts package, the channel SIPA used to release all thirteen. For web work, the Google Fonts Niramit family offers proper webfont packaging and a wider weight range.

Best use cases

TH Niramit AS is a comfortable document face for anything that wants to read a little warmer than Sarabun while staying inside the free National Font set. Strong briefs:

• Internal reports, handouts and briefing documents for Thai institutions
• Long-form printed material where a softer body face is welcome
• School and university coursework where a National Font is required but Sarabun is not mandated
• Bilingual Thai-English documents that need an even, unfussy body texture

Where it does not fit: display and branding work (four document weights cannot carry a hierarchy) and web UI, where Noto Sans Thai or the OFL Niramit redraw package better.

Licensing

TH Niramit AS is free to use: it belongs to the 13 SIPA National Fonts that the Department of Intellectual Property released royalty-free for public and official use.
