Thai Fonts
Information verified as of August 2026
There are thousands of Thai fonts, so the hard question is never which ones exist — it is which one fits the job in front of you, and what you are allowed to do with it. This directory answers both for 124 families and 480 weights, every licence checked against the release the foundry published itself, 111 with a named designer and 95 with a release year, spanning 1973 to 2026. If what you want is the largest possible catalogue, f0nt.com runs to 230 pages of listings and thaifaces.com states it holds 2,204 faces — both many times this directory. Neither tells you, on the listing, whether a given font may be used commercially. Every entry here does.

Most-searched Thai fonts
The Thai font pages readers actually click through to are Prompt, DB Adman X, PSL Kittithada, DB Heavent Rounded and Thonburi. The order below follows measured click-through rate in Google Search Console over the twelve months to August 2026, not raw impressions — Thai foundry faces earn roughly double the click-through of Google Fonts families at comparable positions, because Google Fonts owns its own result. Each page lists the full weight inventory, licence terms verified against the foundry's own publication, the official download source, and installation steps for Windows, macOS, and iOS.

How many Thai fonts are there, really
Nobody has a complete count, but the scale is knowable: the two largest Thai font libraries hold thousands between them, while this directory holds 124 that have been checked one at a time. f0nt.com, the main community channel for independent Thai type, runs to 230 pages of listings. thaifaces.com states on its front page that it holds 2,204 faces across 5,762 styles. Both figures were read off those sites on 29 August 2026. If your goal is to see everything, start there rather than here.
What neither gives you on the listing is whether the font you are looking at can go into client work. f0nt.com sorts fonts into licence categories but does not explain on the listing how they differ; thaifaces.com shows name, date, designer, variant count and style tags, and no licence at all. The listicles that rank alongside them are thinner still. Wongnai's roundup describes itself as "ฟอนต์ไทยดาวน์โหลดฟรีกว่า 60 แบบ" — over sixty free Thai fonts — but most entries carry no designer credit, and there is no per-font licence term anywhere on the page, only a single closing sentence saying every font is free for personal use while commercial use "จะมีเงื่อนไขที่แตกต่างกันออกไป", has varying conditions.
So this directory trades breadth for verification: 124 families, 480 weights, 111 with a named designer, 95 with a release year, spanning 1973 to 2026, every licence checked against the release the foundry published itself. The two approaches work together — find a face on f0nt.com, then check its terms here.
Four questions that decide which Thai font you use
Choosing a Thai font comes down to four questions: does the letterform keep its loop, do you need commercial rights, is this government work or brand work, and does the reader's machine already have the font. Answer those four and the field drops from thousands to dozens. The table routes each answer to the category that holds it.
| Question | If the answer is | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| What should the letterform be | Contemporary, closer to Latin | Loopless (25) |
| Traditional, easy to read at text size | Looped (49) | |
| Does it have to earn money | Yes, and the budget is tight | Open licence (72) |
| Yes, and you need the full weight range | Commercial faces (52) | |
| What kind of work is it | Government or formal documents | The TH series (17) |
| Brand, advertising, packaging | DB (24) · Cadson Demak (30) | |
| Must the reader install anything | No, it ships with the system | Windows (14) · macOS (4) |
| Fine, it can be embedded as a webfont | Google / Noto (3) |
If you are still unsure, set your own text in the Thai font tester, or browse all 19 categories arranged by letterform and by source.
The loop — the decision that matters most
The distinction that changes a Thai layout is not serif versus sans-serif; it is whether the letters keep their loops — and that line was once set by government policy. Pracha Suveeranont, writing in Typotheque's history of Thai typography (published 15 February 2025), dates the shift: "During the early 1970s, a modern preference began to emerge for the crisp, clean lines of sans serif type, the loopless fonts."
The same article records that around 1974 a government typeface-development committee "equated the loops with serifs and pointed out that some loopless typefaces could result in ambiguities", and eventually "announced that the loopless styles were Latinised and their use ought to be restricted to headline text for commercial use only." The restriction lapsed long ago, but it is why loopless Thai spent decades as a display-only style.
The working rule now: loopless when the type is large and short, looped when it is small and long. The published legibility research behind that sits on the loopless hub itself and in the loopless revolution.
Which font do Thai government documents use
TH Sarabun PSK — Thai public agencies were ordered to use it in state papers, as part of the set the Council of Ministers designated the national fonts on 7 September 2010. Wikipedia's National Fonts article records: "On 7 September 2010, the Council of Ministers officially announced the thirteen fonts as the public fonts, naming them the 'national fonts'", that agencies were "required to cease to use the private sector's fonts by 5 December 2010, King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 83rd birthday", and that "the public agencies were ordered to use these fonts, especially TH Sarabun PSK, in their state papers."
The size of the set is reported inconsistently and it is worth knowing before you cite it. Wikipedia counts fourteen, including a font added later; Ramkhamhaeng University Central Library (27 September 2024) counts thirteen and states the terms as "ฟอนต์มาตรฐานราชการไทยทั้ง 13 ฟอนต์นี้ เป็นลิขสิทธิ์ของ SIPA และกรมทรัพย์สินทางปัญญา" — copyright held by SIPA and the Department of Intellectual Property. The MATTER (6 February 2019) splits the difference and calls it "13+1".
Full weights, the official download and install steps are on the TH Sarabun PSK page; the 17 entries we hold from the set are at Thai National Fonts. Three fonts in the set invert the OFL renaming rule — that is explained on free Thai fonts.
What this directory holds — and what it leaves out
This page holds 124 families and 480 weights, spanning 1973 to 2026, and it deliberately excludes every font licensed for personal use only.
| Measure | Count |
|---|---|
| Font families | 124 |
| Weights in total | 480 |
| With a named designer | 111 |
| With a release year | 95 (1973–2026) |
| SIL Open Font License | 36 |
| Free on other terms (GPL, National Fonts, individual author grant) | 36 |
| Commercial or paid | 52 |
| Categories | 19 |
What it leaves out is the class f0nt.com calls personal-use-free, which that site defines as "ฟอนต์ที่ผู้สร้างสรรค์อนุญาตให้ใช้งานเฉพาะงานส่วนตัว ที่ไม่ก่อให้เกิดรายได้เท่านั้น" — permitted only for personal work that generates no income. That is separate from its commercial-use-free class: "ฟอนต์ที่ผู้สร้างสรรค์อนุญาตให้นำไปใช้ทำมาหากินได้ ส่วนใหญ่จะมีข้อกำหนดตามสัญญาอนุญาตหลักของเว็บฟอนต์.คอม". On 29 August 2026 those ran to 82 and 26 pages of listings respectively. The gap between them is the most expensive mistake in Thai font licensing, and it is why nothing from the first class appears here. The full walkthrough is in the Thai font licensing guide.
Name variants and spellings
This page is searched under several names, all meaning the same thing:
- ฟอนต์ไทย — the standard Thai query
- ฟ้อนต์ไทย — the most common misspelling, and one this site sees in its own Search Console data, which records ฟ้อนต์ prompt at 496 impressions against ฟอนต์ prompt at 133
- ฟอนต์ภาษาไทย — the long form
- ตัวอักษรไทย, แบบอักษรไทย — letterform rather than font file
- Thai font, Thai typeface, Thai script font — the English equivalents
Browse by foundry and platform
Most Thai fonts in everyday use come from a handful of sources: Cadson Demak, DB Fonts, PSL, the UPC set bundled with Windows, and the TH series from the National Font Project. Knowing which family a typeface belongs to is the fastest way to find its siblings and a matching weight range. Each link below is that source's own hub, with every font it holds.
