What SanamDeklen is
SanamDeklen (สนามเด็กเล่น, “playground”) is a cute Thai handwriting font by a designer who publishes as chaya, released free on f0nt.com on 25 October 2017 in a single weight. The designer states plainly on the release page that it can be used commercially. The file name is SanamDeklen_chaya, which is why so many people search for it as “sanamdeklen font”.
The designer made it in the third year of a Lettering and Typography Design course, with a concept that follows the name: gentle, cute and playful. The READ ME image bundled with the font adds that it was meant to feel childlike and friendly “but still a font you can read”.
The counter on the release page showed 3,985,353 downloads when we checked on 19 October 2026.
Letterforms and tone
SanamDeklen is a monoline hand with rounded stroke ends and a light, even weight. Some Thai letters keep their head loop and others drop it, which reads like a child carefully writing their neatest hand. It is deliberate handwriting, not a fast or flicked one.
The Latin is drawn in the same hand, with full upper- and lowercase and a single-storey a, so brand names and English words can sit in a Thai line without switching fonts.
The font file records that it was built on the NP NaipolTemplate, version 3.001, and the designer thanks the Naipol template (นายพลเทมเพลท) on the release page. Compare another cute hand, iannnnn-HEN, or see the full set in cute Thai fonts.
Weight and files
SanamDeklen has one weight, Regular, supplied as both .otf and .ttf in a single zip of about 499 KB, with a READ ME image and a sample image. Install one of the two files, not both.
With a single weight, hierarchy has to come from size and colour rather than bold. If you need a handwriting face with a weight range, look at Mali, which starts at ExtraLight.
The designer recommends downloading on a computer; if you must download on an iPad or iPhone, use Safari.
Best use cases
SanamDeklen suits work that should feel warm, playful and child-friendly while staying readable. Strong briefs, including the uses the designer has confirmed:
- LINE stickers and social graphics
- Children’s books, stories and teaching material
- Cards, shop signs, menus and cute packaging
- Note-taking and journal decoration on a tablet

Licensing
SanamDeklen is free for commercial use. Asked whether it can be used commercially, for LINE stickers and for books, the designer answers on the release page “สามารถใช้ได้เลยค่ะ” (yes, go ahead), under f0nt.com’s licence. The restriction is that the font file may not be sold, given away or bundled. There is no charge; the designer accepts donations through the contact details on the release page.
f0nt.com’s licence, which this font follows, allows income-earning design, client work and in-house work, including printing books for sale. It forbids selling the font files or re-hosting them for download elsewhere. Modifying the font for your own use is fine; modifying it for sale or commissioned production needs the designer’s permission first. f0nt.com does allow the NP Naipol template itself to be modified and redistributed, but that right belongs to the template and does not extend to SanamDeklen.
One thing to watch: since May 2021 the release page has carried a note that the designer is “preparing a new licence” in addition to f0nt.com’s. When we checked on 19 October 2026 no new licence had been posted, and the font file itself embeds no licence text.
