What iannnnn-DOG is
iannnnn-DOG (หมา) is a Thai handwriting typeface released free for commercial use by Prachya Singhto on f0nt.com in August 2021, in three weights: Light, Regular and Bold. It is the neatest hand in the designer’s animal series, and the one to reach for when a handwriting face still has to behave.
The animal naming is the designer’s own convention — DOG, RABBIT, MONKEY, COW, HEN, OWL and others, each a different handwriting register rather than a different family member. DOG sits at the tidy end. On his own COW release page the designer positions that later font as “less refined than the Dog font”, which is a useful calibration: DOG is the controlled one.
Three weights is generous for a free Thai handwriting face. Most ship a single Regular, which is why they cannot build hierarchy — see handwritten Thai fonts for the comparison across the category.
Character design and tone
iannnnn-DOG reproduces careful everyday Thai penmanship — even spacing, consistent stroke weight, and letterforms disciplined enough to hold together in a paragraph. It is handwriting written slowly, not handwriting dashed off.
That discipline is what makes the three weights usable. Because the Light, Regular and Bold share a stable skeleton, you can set a heading in Bold and running text in Regular without the two reading as different hands — an ordinary expectation for a text family, and an unusual one for a free handwriting face.
The tone is friendly and unpretentious without tipping into cartoon. Against BoonJot it is warmer and more clearly hand-drawn; against iannnnn-MONKEY it is far more composed.
