What the iannnnn 2005 series is

The iannnnn 2005 series is sixteen free Thai fonts posted on f0nt.com across calendar year 2005 by Prachya Singhto, the designer who founded the site — plus iannnnnITV, listed on 26 December 2004 but titled "iannnnnITV (2005)" by f0nt.com itself and distributed as the file 2005_iannnnnitv.zip. They are handwriting, 8-bit, dot-matrix and ransom-note display faces; all cover Thai and Latin, all ship a single weight, and all seventeen release pages still resolve and still serve their archives. Counted from the download meters on those pages on 29 August 2026, the seventeen have been taken 7,483,044 times between them — 7,307,156 without ITV. The designer's index on f0nt.com states he has released 33 fonts in total, so this one year is close to half his lifetime catalogue and the only year that fills a listing page on its own. Who iannnnn is, and why this series and f0nt.com are the same story

iannnnn is Prachya Singhto (ปรัชญา สิงห์โต), and he did not merely publish the 2005 series on f0nt.com — he founded f0nt.com, which makes this run the site's own first-year output. He tells the origin himself on the iannnnnUBC release page: "ฟอนต์ตัวแรกในชีวิตของผม หัดทำตอนจะส่งวิทยานิพนธ์เพียงเพราะอยากได้ฟอนต์ที่เป็นลายมือตัวเองไว้บรรยายภาพส่งอาจารย์ โดยไม่มีความรู้เรื่องการทำฟอนต์เลย … จนเกิดเป็นเว็บฟอนต์.ไอ้แอนนนนน และ ฟอนต์.คอมในที่สุด!" — the first font of his life, taught to himself for a thesis submission because he wanted his own handwriting for image captions, which became the fonts.iannnnn site and finally f0nt.com. Positioning Magazine, dated 13 September 2011, places him as a back-of-the-class architecture student at Silpakorn University who took the presenting job in group work and found no Thai font fit for architectural reports, so he made one.

The dates line up exactly. The f0nt.com About page carries a history log that puts the site's start at fonts.iannnnn.com in 2003 as plain HTML, then "19 ธันวาคม 2004 จดโดเมนเนมใหม่และเปิดตัว f0nt.com อย่างเป็นทางการ" — the domain registered and the site officially launched on 19 December 2004. iannnnnITV was listed seven days later. Positioning records that the site opened by publishing that first font set, iannnnn, named after his nickname. The handle itself is explained in a Blognone Q&A published 2 July 2006: "แอน" alone did not tell anyone his gender, so he prefixed "ไอ้", and there are five n's "เพราะหนึ่งตัวถึงสี่ตัวมันไม่ว่างไงล่ะ" — because one through four were already taken. The About page, signed @iannnnn — ผู้ดูแลเว็บไซต์, now describes the site as "หมุดหมายสำคัญของวงการตัวอักษรไทยมากว่า 2 ทศวรรษ". Every 2005 release, in order

Below is the complete run in the order f0nt.com lists it, with the listed post date, the download count read from each release page on 29 August 2026, and the designer's own one-line description of what the font is. Two things to know before reading it. First, the release pages carry the date only as visible byline text — there is no machine-readable datePublished, og:published_time or datetime attribute anywhere in the HTML, on the release pages or on the index. Every date here matches the designer index at f0nt.com and should be read as "listed", not "posted". Second, the January ordering is corroborated from inside the posts: iannnnnUBC's page calls it the first font he ever made, and iannnnnHBO's page calls that one "ฟอนต์ตัวที่สองในชีวิตครับ", the second of his life, which independently confirms the index's ordering of the 19 January trio.

Download figures were read from the counters on the seventeen release pages on 29 August 2026; they are live meters and will have moved since. Every one of the seventeen pages carries f0nt.com's ใช้งานเชิงพาณิชย์ได้ฟรี badge — free for commercial use — and the agreement line ข้อตกลง: คลิกดาวน์โหลด = ยอมรับสัญญาอนุญาต, clicking download means accepting the licence. Checked on all seventeen the same day.

Coverage, stated plainly. The grid at the top of this page is generated from ThaiGraph's own font collection, so it is exactly the iannnnn fonts we hold a full page for — nothing is padded in. Where a font in the table above is missing from that grid, we have not written it up yet, and the f0nt.com release page linked in its row is the record. We would rather show you the gap.

The licence: free for commercial use, and the clause that decides the hard cases

Every font in the 2005 series is free to download and free to use commercially under f0nt.com's site-wide licence, and that licence contains an explicit precedence rule: terms set by the font's owner on its download page, or in a document file bundled with the font, override the site default. The licence page states the grant and the rule in one sentence: "คุณสามารถดาวน์โหลดฟอนต์ไปใช้งานได้ฟรี ไม่ต้องเสียค่าใช้จ่ายแต่อย่างใด แต่ถ้ามีการระบุข้อตกลงอื่นใดจากเจ้าของฟอนต์ ดังที่แสดงไว้ในหน้าดาวน์โหลดฟอนต์ หรือเป็นไฟล์เอกสารแสดงข้อตกลงที่แนบไปกับฟอนต์นั้นๆ ให้ยึดข้อตกลงดังกล่าวเป็นสำคัญ". Its FAQ answers the commercial question directly — asked whether you may use the fonts to earn money, to design for clients, or inside an organisation, the answer is "ได้จ้ะ เอาเลย", go right ahead. Printing at home, sending files to a commercial printer and producing books for sale are all listed as permitted.

Three restrictions are real, and they are stricter than the OFL that covers most free Thai fonts:

• You may not sell the font file. "ไม่อนุญาตให้นำ 'ไฟล์ฟอนต์' ไปขาย เว้นแต่จะเป็นการแนบไฟล์ติดไปกับสื่อ โปรแกรม เพื่อความสะดวกในการใช้งาน แต่ไม่ใช่เพื่อการขายฟอนต์เป็นหลัก" — bundling a file so a deliverable renders correctly is fine; selling the font as the product is not.
• You may not re-host it. Asked whether you can copy the font files and offer them for download elsewhere, the FAQ answers "ไม่ได้จ้ะ"; descriptions and specimen images may be republished with attribution and a link back to the download page. That is why every download link on ThaiGraph points at the f0nt.com release page and never at a mirror.
• Modifying for redistribution needs permission. Private modification is allowed; modifying in order to sell or to distribute onward requires the owner's consent first — with one named exception, the NP Naipol Template itself, which the licence says may be modified and redistributed freely.

The badge on each release page links f0nt.com's commercial-use category, defined there verbatim as "ฟอนต์ที่ผู้สร้างสรรค์อนุญาตให้นำไปใช้ทำมาหากินได้" — fonts their creators permit to be used to earn a living — with the caveat, in the same paragraph, that some fonts set other terms. The designer's own bio, shown on every one of his release pages, says it in the first person: "ฟอนต์จาก iannnnn แจกฟรีตลอดไป เอาไปใช้ทำมาหากินได้เลยครับ", fonts from iannnnn are free forever, go and use them to make a living. The licence inside the font files says the opposite — here is how that resolves

Open any TTF in this series and its name table claims a restriction the website does not: eighteen of the nineteen files carry the licence string "For educations used only." and iannnnnTKO carries a five-clause English block whose clause 4 reads "None use font files for any commercial." Both are stale template boilerplate, and f0nt.com's own precedence rule is what settles it. This is the one genuine ambiguity in the series, so here is every place a term lives and what weight it carries.

Both strings travel with the NP Naipol template these fonts were built on, not with the author's intent. f0nt.com's licence gives other terms priority only when they appear on the download page or in a document attached to the font; the download pages state the grant, and no archive contains a document at all — so the embedded name-table string is neither of the two things that could displace it. On top of that, fsType is 8, Editable embedding, in all nineteen files, so embedding in documents and conversion to webfonts is permitted at the binary level too. Our reading is that the release-page grant governs. That is a reading and not legal advice: for a high-value or high-risk use, ask the designer directly through the f0nt.com forum, which the licence page points to. TKO's clause 3 is worth quoting as printed, misspelling included: "You may not translate, modify, reverse files, disassemble, decompile or otherwise re-gennerate the font files."

Not one font in the series declares a Thai OpenType script

Reading GSUB and GPOS in all nineteen files, every one that has either table registers only the latn script, with liga and kern — there is no thai script, no Thai mark-positioning feature and no alternate tone-mark forms for tall consonants anywhere in the 2005 series. iannnnnITV, iannnnnUBC and iannnnnTKO have no GPOS at all, and TKO has neither GSUB nor GPOS. Thai vowel and tone-mark placement in these fonts comes from the fixed geometry of the NP Naipol template, not from shaping. The designer says exactly that on the iannnnnITV page: "ในสมัยนั้นฟอนต์ไทยที่ใช้ได้กับทุกโปรแกรม ทุกระบบปฏิบัติการนั้นยังไม่มีครับ ก็ได้เฮียนายพลนี่แหละที่คิดค้นนวัตกรรมนี้ขึ้นมา" — at the time there was no Thai font that worked in every program and every operating system, and it was Naipol who invented that. On iannnnnGTO he names the practical gain from template version 2: "เลยสระวรรณยุกต์ไม่ลอยในโปรแกรม Photoshop", vowels and tone marks stop floating in Photoshop. Treat them as display type. For body text in a modern shaping engine, choose from free Thai fonts and test with your own text first.

What the files do have is complete coverage. Every assigned codepoint in the Thai block U+0E01 to U+0E5B is present in the cmap of all nineteen files with no gaps, Thai digits ๐–๙ included, and each font carries 26 Latin capitals, 26 lowercase and 10 Western digits drawn as their own outlines rather than borrowed from the Thai. Units per em is 2048 throughout. Glyph counts are 238, except TKO at 223.

The files you download today are the November 2005 rebuild

The archives served now are not the January 2005 originals: the designer rebuilt the whole series on 20 November 2005 and announced it on the iannnnnISO release page. His note reads "ป.ล. ใครเคยโหลดฟอนต์ไอ้แอนนนนน (2005) ไป ผมอัปเกรดและแก้ไขตำหนิมันเมื่อ 20 พ.ย.48 ครับ ดังนั้นตัวไหนที่โหลดไปก่อนอาจจะมีไม่สมบูรณ์อยู่บ้าง ยังไงลบของเก่าทิ้งไปแล้วดูดของใหม่เข้าไปแทนโลด !!" — anyone who downloaded the 2005 fonts earlier should delete them and take the new ones, because he upgraded them and fixed their flaws on 20 November 2548, which is 2005. The binaries agree: head.created timestamps in the shipped files cluster between 20 September and 4 November 2005 even for fonts listed in January. iannnnnTKO is the single exception, created 19 January 2005, and it is also the only file with no GSUB, GPOS, GDEF or kern table, with 223 glyphs instead of 238 and a different embedded licence. It is the one font listed before the rebuild round that still ships its original file. iannnnnMTV never got rebuilt either, but for the opposite reason: it was first built on 13 October 2005, after the round had already begun. The version strings in the shipped files are not uniform either — fifteen read Version 2.000, MTV reads Version 1.000, iannnnnGMM and iannnnnGTO read Version 1.001, and TKO reads Version 1.050.

Three defects survive in the files as served. The unique identifier of 2005_iannnnnUBC.ttf reads "iannnnn: 2005_iannnnnGMO: 2005" — a copy-paste from GMO. The glyph sara_uee in 2005_iannnnnTKO.ttf has an advance width of 65535, an unsigned overflow of minus one. And iannnnnCTX, the only release with more than one file in it, does not match its own post: the page describes three styles named 2005_iannnnnCTX (transparent), 2005_iannnnnCTX 9000 (shadowed) and 2005_iannnnnCTX 9001 (solid), while the archive downloaded on 29 August 2026 contains 2005_iannnnnCTX-9000.ttf, 2005_iannnnnCTX-9001.ttf and 2005_iannnnnCTX-9002.ttf, with no plain CTX file at all.

What the three-letter names mean, and what nobody has published

The series uses one naming device throughout: the designer's handle plus a three-letter uppercase acronym drawn from the media and technology vocabulary of 2005 Thailand. Some fit their designs. At least one is arbitrary by his own admission. For most of them there is no published explanation anywhere, and this page does not invent one. Everything he actually said about naming, across all seventeen release pages, the About page, the 2011 Positioning interview and the 2006 Blognone Q&A:

• ITV — named for the letterform, not the broadcaster: "ตั้วชื่อว่า I เพราะตัว I มันยาวดี", named I because the letter I is nicely long. The typo ตั้ว for ตั้ง is in the original.
• SME — arbitrary, and he says so: "นึกชื่อไม่ออกเลยเอาชื่อคล้ายๆ กันนี่แหละ", he could not think of a name so he reused one like its twin's.
• BMX, TKO, CPU, AMD, JPG — fit their designs: a child learning to ride a bicycle; a comic knockout face; two 8-bit faces; a picture-caption face for manga.
• GTO — named off GMO, which its own page calls it a sequel to.
• MTV, HBO, UBC, GMO, GMM, CTX, DVD, SMS, SOS — no naming statement exists on any page we could find. Anything claiming these are named after the broadcasters or the brands is unsourced.

Where 2005 sits in the history of Thai type

The iannnnn 2005 run predates Thailand's National Fonts by two years and open-licensed Thai webfonts by roughly a decade: it is the amateur, pre-institutional layer of modern Thai type, and it has never been documented in English. The chronology:

• 2003 — the site begins at fonts.iannnnn.com as plain HTML, per the f0nt.com history log.
• 19 December 2004 — the f0nt.com domain is registered and the site officially launches, same source.
• 26 December 2004 to 20 October 2005 — the seventeen-font iannnnn run, 7.48 million downloads to date.
• 11 May 2005 — NP Naipol All in One, the shared template underneath this whole series, is released on f0nt.com.
• 28 June 2007 — the thirteen Thai National Fonts are released by the Department of Intellectual Property with SIPA.
• 7 September 2010 — the Council of Ministers designates those thirteen the national fonts.
• 2015 onward — Cadson Demak's open-licensed Thai families reach Google Fonts, and free Thai type gets its variable-font era.

The series also links forward into fonts already on this site. On iannnnnGMO the designer names his model outright — "ผมชอบฟอนต์ CordiaUPC (ตัวหนา) เป็นการส่วนตัวครับ", he personally likes CordiaUPC Bold and wanted to make something as good — and the same page notes that GMO's 2025 successor is iannnnn-HEN, redesigned start to finish with, he says, a trace of GMO still in it. iannnnnTKO's note names iannnnn-TIGER, from 2022, as its successor; ThaiGraph does not carry that font yet.
