iannnnnMTV is a foundry/desktop font, so it can’t be embedded as a free webfont for a live preview here. See the specimen above for the real letterforms, or load your own text into the Thai Font Tester to compare it against the free Google Fonts alternatives.
What iannnnnMTV is
iannnnnMTV is a bold, looped Thai handwriting typeface by Prachya Singhto, listed on f0nt.com on 20 October 2005, and it is the most downloaded font of his entire 2005 series — the counter on its release page read 1,345,578 downloads when we checked it on 29 August 2026. One weight, Thai and Latin, free for commercial use.
The face is the designer’s own handwriting, deliberately overplayed. His release note calls it “ฟอนต์ลายมือของตัวเองแบบดัดจริต” — a mannered, put-on version of his own hand — and then gives a reason for the weight that is unusually practical for this series: “โดยลองทำเป็นตัวหนาดูบ้าง เผื่อใครเอาไปย่อเล็กๆ แล้วเส้นจะได้ไม่บางเกินไปไงครับ”, he tried making it bold in case someone scaled it down and the strokes came out too thin.
It also closed the year. On page 2 of the designer’s index, which holds exactly sixteen releases and nothing but 2005 titles, iannnnnMTV sits at the top with the latest date of the run. The whole set is catalogued at iannnnn Thai fonts, and the designer is the same person who founded the site it was published on — on the iannnnnUBC page he traces the line from his first font, made for a thesis, to “เว็บฟอนต์.ไอ้แอนนนนน และ ฟอนต์.คอมในที่สุด”.
Why it was drawn bold, and what that buys you
The bold weight is a legibility decision rather than a style choice — the designer says so himself — and iannnnnMTV is also the most downloaded font in the series, running about 45 per cent ahead of the runner-up. We are putting those two facts side by side, not claiming the first caused the second: nobody has published download data broken out by why people chose a face, and we have not tested the link. On 29 August 2026 the counters read 1,345,580 for MTV against 928,660 for iannnnnJPG, the next-highest of the 2005 run; the lowest, iannnnnAMD, sat at 147,239. Most Thai handwriting faces are drawn at a comfortable display size and then fall apart when someone sets them at 14 or 16 px: the loops fill in, the tone marks turn to dust, and the hairline joints disappear into the paper or the screen.
iannnnnMTV starts heavier, so it has further to fall. That is the whole trick, and the designer states it as the brief rather than leaving it to be inferred.
f0nt.com’s own tagging of the post reads the same way. The tags on the release page are น่ารัก (cute), ลายมือ (handwriting), วัยรุ่น (teen), หัวโต (big loop) and เด็ก (children). หัวโต is the load-bearing one: it names the single variable that does most of the emotional work in Thai type, and it tells you before you install anything that the loops here are large, round and the dominant feature of the face.
What the letterforms actually do
iannnnnMTV is looped Thai — every consonant that should carry a หัว carries a large, closed, deliberately rounded one — set on a wide, slightly tilted skeleton with an uneven baseline, which is what keeps it reading as a hand rather than as a bold sans. The stroke weight is close to monolinear; the modulation you see is the wobble of the original writing, not contrast built into the drawing.
Three things a type designer notices:
- The loops dominate the counters. At display sizes this is the face’s charm. At text sizes the loops start to close up before the stems do, which is the opposite of the failure mode you get in a loopless face like Anuphan and is worth testing before you commit.
- The Latin is drawn, not borrowed. The file carries 26 capitals, 26 lowercase and 10 Western digits with their own outlines, so bilingual lines set in one typeface rather than in two. It also carries the Thai digits ๐–๙, which plenty of 2005 freeware skipped.
- Spacing is generous and irregular. This is a hand, and the sidebearings were not optically corrected across the whole set. Long strings of Thai will show rhythm gaps. Set a real sentence in the Thai font tester at your actual size before you sign off on it.
Compared with its own siblings: iannnnn-HEN, the designer’s 2025 face, is the composed, modern equivalent with three weights and a consistent skeleton; iannnnnMTV is louder, heavier and less disciplined. Against iannnnnJPG, the comic-caption hand from January of the same year, MTV is the one you set large and JPG is the one you set in a speech balloon.
What is actually inside the file
One TTF, one weight, no documentation, and a set of properties that explain both why this font works everywhere and why you should not treat it as a text face. Everything below was read from 2005_iannnnnMTV.ttf with fontTools 4.57.0, out of the archive the release page serves.
| Property | Value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Files in the archive | 2005_iannnnnMTV.ttf and nothing else | No LICENSE, README or OFL.txt — the licence lives on the web page, not in the zip |
| Style name (nameID 2) | Regular | There is no weight axis and no italic. One cut, full stop |
| Version string (nameID 5) | Version 1.000 2005 initial release | This is still the first build — see the rebuild section below |
| Designer (nameID 9) | Prachya Singhto | The romanisation ThaiGraph uses across every iannnnn page |
| Template credit (nameID 10) | This font used : NP NaipolTemplate : Version 2.000 | The shared community template that made 2005 Thai freeware work across programs |
| Embedded licence (nameID 13) | For educations used only. | Template boilerplate that contradicts the site’s grant — resolved below |
| Units per em | 2048 | Standard TrueType grid |
| Glyph count | 238 | Small; there are no alternates and no stylistic sets |
| Thai coverage | All 87 assigned codepoints in U+0E01–U+0E5B, zero gaps | Includes Thai digits ๐–๙ |
| Latin coverage | 26 + 26 + 10, separately drawn | supportsLatin: true is literally true here |
| OpenType scripts | latn only — liga in GSUB, kern in GPOS | No thai script is declared at all |
| Embedding permission (fsType) | 8, Editable embedding | Document embedding and webfont conversion are permitted at the binary level |
The line that matters most is the OpenType one. Not one font in the 2005 series declares a Thai script, so there is no mark-positioning feature and no alternate tone-mark form for a tall consonant. Vowel and tone-mark placement comes from the fixed geometry of the NP Naipol template, which is exactly why these fonts behaved identically in Photoshop and in Microsoft Word in 2005 and why they still behave predictably today — and also why a modern shaping engine has nothing to work with. Treat iannnnnMTV as display type. For running Thai text, take a face from free Thai fonts instead.
The file you download is version 1.000 — and for this font, that is the interesting answer
The designer rebuilt the 2005 series after the fact and told people to re-download it, but iannnnnMTV is one of the fonts that was already current: its version string still reads “Version 1.000 2005 initial release” and its internal creation date is 13 October 2005, a week before it was listed. On the iannnnnISO page, posted at the start of 2006, he writes: “ป.ล. ใครเคยโหลดฟอนต์ไอ้แอนนนนน (2005) ไป ผมอัปเกรดและแก้ไขตำหนิมันเมื่อ 20 พ.ย.48 ครับ … ยังไงลบของเก่าทิ้งไปแล้วดูดของใหม่เข้าไปแทนโลด !!” — he upgraded the 2005 fonts and fixed their flaws on 20 November 2548, so delete the old files and take the new ones.
For most of the series that note explains a real discrepancy: the January releases ship files created in autumn 2005, months after they were first posted. iannnnnJPG is the clean example — listed 20 January 2005 and shipping a file stamped Version 2.000 and created 25 September 2005.
iannnnnMTV is on the other side of that line. It was made in mid-October and posted a week later, at the end of the rebuild window rather than before it.
| iannnnnMTV | iannnnnJPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Listed on the designer index | 20 Oct 2005 | 20 Jan 2005 |
| Version string in the served file | Version 1.000 | Version 2.000 |
head.created | 13 Oct 2005 | 25 Sep 2005 |
head.modified | 14 Oct 2005 | 13 Oct 2005 |
| Reading | Original build, made a week before release | Rebuilt roughly eight months after release |
One honest caveat on the dates. The designer’s announcement is dated 20 November 2005, and neither file carries a head timestamp later than mid-October, so his date is best read as when he announced the pass rather than when each binary was written. The version strings, which differ between these two files, are the harder evidence.
Is iannnnnMTV free for commercial use?
Yes. The release page files iannnnnMTV under f0nt.com’s ใช้งานเชิงพาณิชย์ได้ฟรี category — free for commercial use — and the site licence answers the client-work question directly with “ได้จ้ะ เอาเลย”, go right ahead. No payment, no permission, no attribution requirement. The download button is preceded by one line of agreement: “ข้อตกลง: คลิกดาวน์โหลด = ยอมรับสัญญาอนุญาต” — clicking download is accepting the licence.
The category itself is defined on f0nt.com in one sentence: “ฟอนต์ที่ผู้สร้างสรรค์อนุญาตให้นำไปใช้ทำมาหากินได้”, fonts their creators permit to be used to earn a living. The designer says the same thing in the first person in the bio that appears on every one of his release pages: “ฟอนต์จาก iannnnn แจกฟรีตลอดไป เอาไปใช้ทำมาหากินได้เลยครับ”.
Three restrictions are real, and they are tighter than the SIL Open Font License that covers most free Thai fonts:
- You may not sell the font file. Bundling it with a deliverable so the thing renders correctly is expressly allowed; selling the
.ttfas the product is not. - You may not re-host it. Copying the file and offering it for download elsewhere is answered “ไม่ได้จ้ะ”. Descriptions and specimen images may be republished with attribution and a link back to the download page — which is why every download link on this site points at f0nt.com and never at a mirror.
- Modifying for redistribution needs permission. Private modification is fine. Modifying in order to sell or distribute onward requires the owner’s consent, with the NP Naipol Template named as the single exception.
The full comparison against OFL, Creative Commons and the Thai National Font terms is in the Thai font licensing guide.
The licence inside the file says the opposite
Open the TTF and its name table claims a restriction the website does not: nameID 13 reads “For educations used only.” That string is stale template boilerplate, and f0nt.com’s own precedence rule is what settles it. Here is every place a term for this font lives, and what weight each carries:
| Where the term lives | What it says | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| The release page and the f0nt.com site licence | ใช้งานเชิงพาณิชย์ได้ฟรี; FAQ answer “ได้จ้ะ เอาเลย” | The publisher’s current, explicit grant — and here the rights holder is the site operator |
| A licence document inside the archive | There isn’t one. 2005_iannnnnMTV.zip contains a single .ttf | The one channel the site licence says can override the default is empty |
| nameID 13 in the TTF | For educations used only. | Binary metadata, not a bundled document. The same file’s nameID 10 credits NP NaipolTemplate : Version 2.000 |
The site licence gives other terms priority only when they appear on the download page or in a document file attached to the font. The download page states the grant; the archive contains no document. The embedded string is neither of the two things that could displace it, and it travels with the template rather than with the author’s intent — the identical string sits in eighteen of the nineteen files in this series. On top of that, fsType is 8, so embedding and webfont conversion are permitted at the binary level too.
That is our reading of a genuine conflict, not legal advice. For a high-value identity project, ask the designer through the f0nt.com forum, which the licence page points to.
Where to download iannnnnMTV
Download it from the iannnnnMTV release page on f0nt.com. That is the only source the licence permits, and the file you get is 2005_iannnnnMTV.zip, roughly 62 KB, containing one TTF.
Two practical notes for anyone scripting this:
- The button on the page points at
https://www.f0nt.com/?dl_name=iannnnn/2005_iannnnnMTV.zip, which answers302and redirects to the stored archive under/wp-content/files/iannnnn/. Verified negative, against the common assumption: we requested that endpoint from a bare command line on 29 August 2026 with noRefererheader and no browser User-Agent, and it served the full 62,345-byte zip. There is no hotlink protection to work around. Use the release page regardless — the redirect target is an undocumented implementation detail that can move without notice, and re-hosting or hot-linking the file breaks the licence in any case. - There is no Google Fonts entry, no GitHub repository and no OFL text anywhere in this series. Any site offering an “iannnnnMTV free download” from its own server is re-hosting against the terms above.
To install: unzip, then right-click the .ttf and choose Install on Windows, or double-click and choose Install Font on macOS. For web use you would self-host and declare it with @font-face — permitted by fsType 8, but read the OpenType caveat above first, because a browser shaping Thai will get no help from this file.
What to set it with
iannnnnMTV is a voice, not a text face: give it the headline and hand the paragraph to something neutral. Briefs it genuinely fits:
- Posters, social graphics and campaign headlines aimed at a young Thai audience — the site’s own tags for it are teen, children and cute
- Packaging and menu boards where the type should feel handwritten but still hold at a distance
- Titles and pull quotes set large, where the loops are an asset
- Bilingual Thai/English display lines, since the Latin is drawn rather than substituted
Where it does not fit: long Thai body copy, UI labels, any layout with heavy tone-mark stacking at small sizes, and anything that needs to read as institutional. Set the running text in Sarabun, the standard open-licence Thai body face, or in Anuphan for a loopless counterpoint that lets the headline do all the talking.
If you like the register but need weights and a modern shaping table, the designer’s own iannnnn-HEN from 2025 is the direct upgrade path. If you want to understand why 2005 Thai freeware looks the way it does before you build on it, start with how to make a Thai font and the Thai type foundries map.
What “MTV” means here — and what nobody has published
There is no published explanation for the name iannnnnMTV, and this page is not going to invent one. The series uses a single naming device throughout: the designer’s handle plus a three-letter uppercase acronym out of the media and technology vocabulary of 2005 Thailand. Some of those fit their designs — BMX is a child learning to ride a bicycle, TKO is a comic knockout face, CPU and AMD are 8-bit, JPG is a picture-caption face. At least one is arbitrary by his own admission: on iannnnnSME he writes that he could not think of a name and reused one like its twin’s.
For MTV, HBO, UBC, GMO, GMM, CTX, DVD, SMS and SOS, no naming statement exists on any of the seventeen release pages, on the About page, or in the 2011 Positioning interview or the 2006 Blognone interview. Anything telling you this font is named after the music channel is unsourced. Stating the gap is more useful than filling it, and it is the single most likely place a competing listicle has made something up.
One name in the series does have an explanation, and it points away from the broadcasters entirely: on iannnnnITV the designer writes “ตั้วชื่อว่า I เพราะตัว I มันยาวดี” — named I because the letter I is nicely long. That is a statement about a letterform, not about a television station.
Name variants and spellings
These all point at the same typeface, and searching any of them should land here:
- iannnnnMTV — the name on the release page, five n’s, no space
- iannnnn MTV, iannnnn-MTV — spaced and hyphenated forms in common use
- 2005_iannnnnMTV — the filename inside the archive, and the form people paste from a font menu
- ฟอนต์ไอ้แอนนนนน, ไอ้แอนนนนน — the designer’s handle written in Thai
- ฟอนต์ 2005 — the query for the series this font belongs to
- iannnnn font, f0nt.com MTV font — the English and site-name forms
- Prachya Singhto, ปรัชญา สิงห์โต — the designer’s name in both scripts
For the rest of the run — all sixteen 2005 releases plus iannnnnITV, with dates, download counts and what is inside each file — see iannnnn Thai fonts. For where this face sits by style, see handwritten Thai fonts and looped Thai fonts. And for the face the designer was chasing when the series started, read CordiaUPC — he names it as his model on the iannnnnGMO page.
