What iannnnnTKO is

iannnnnTKO is a free Thai comic sound-effect display face by Prachya Singhto (ปรัชญา สิงห์โต), listed on f0nt.com on 25 January 2005 and free for commercial use. It is a single heavy weight drawn for the noise in a comic panel, not for reading: thuds, crashes, smashes and shouts.

The designer’s own description on the release page is one line: ฟอนต์เจ็บ!.. เอาไว้ประกอบภาพการ์ตูนที่มีเสียงเอฟเฟกต์อย่าง ตุ้บตั้บ พลั่ก โครมคราม เพล้ง โอ้วววว อู้ววววว อ๊าววววว — “a font that hurts! For comic art with sound effects like tup-tap, plak, khrom-khram, phleng, ooooh, woooo, aaargh.” Those are Thai comic onomatopoeia, and the brief is exactly that narrow.

Its counter read โหลด 555,277 ครั้ง on 29 August 2026 — 555,277 downloads, fifth in the iannnnn 2005 series, a live meter that will have moved since. And it is the file in that series worth opening in an editor, because it is different from all sixteen others in every dimension that can be measured.

The one file in the 2005 series that still ships its January original

iannnnnTKO is the only font listed before the autumn 2005 rebuild that still ships the file it launched with — the copy f0nt.com serves today was created on 19 January 2005 and last modified on 25 January 2005, the day it was listed. That is not an inference from a filename; it is head.created and head.modified inside the TTF you download. One other font in the run also escaped the rebuild, but for the opposite reason: iannnnnMTV was listed on 20 October 2005 and built on 13 October, after the rebuild round had already begun, so there was nothing to redo. Every other file in the series carries an autumn 2005 timestamp.

Anyone who downloaded the 2005 fonts should delete them and take the new ones, because he upgraded them and fixed their flaws on 20 November 2548 — 2005 in the Common Era. What is uniform across the rest of the run is the timestamp, not the version string: every one of the other eighteen files was created between 20 September and 4 November 2005, months after most of them were first listed. The version strings vary — fifteen of the eighteen read Version 2.000, iannnnnMTV reads Version 1.000, and iannnnnGMM and iannnnnGTO read Version 1.001. TKO’s reads Version 1.050, and its timestamp is the only one outside that autumn window. It is the original build, still in circulation.

Everything else that makes TKO odd follows from that. Set beside iannnnnSOS, a rebuilt file from the same month:

Both files were built on the same community template — NP Naipol, the shared substrate under a large part of mid-2000s Thai freeware type — but TKO carries the template author’s own site credit rather than the template’s version credit, which is the fingerprint of the earlier workflow.

The embedded licence says the opposite of the website — how that resolves

Open the TTF and its name table claims a restriction the release page does not: clause 4 of iannnnnTKO’s embedded licence reads “None use font files for any commercial.” The release page carries f0nt.com’s ใช้งานเชิงพาณิชย์ได้ฟรี badge, free for commercial use. This is the genuine ambiguity in the 2005 series and it is worth setting out completely rather than picking a side quietly.

Here is the whole nameID 13 block from 2005_iannnnnTKO.ttf, quoted as printed, misspelling included:

1. This Font is FREEWARE. You can install and use it on an unlimited number of computers. This font is free for distribution in any form as long as it’s kept in the original form.
2. This Font Encoded by http://webnaipol.f2g.net and license of this font does not transfer any ownership of the FONT FILES to you.
3. You may not translate, modify, reverse files, disassemble, decompile or otherwise re-gennerate the font files.
4. None use font files for any commercial.
5. NO WARRANTY. THIS FONT IS LICENSED TO YOU “AS IS” AND WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY OR GUARANTEE OF ANY KIND.

Every place a term for this font lives, and what weight each carries:

f0nt.com’s licence sets the precedence rule explicitly: แต่ถ้ามีการระบุข้อตกลงอื่นใดจากเจ้าของฟอนต์ ดังที่แสดงไว้ในหน้าดาวน์โหลดฟอนต์ หรือเป็นไฟล์เอกสาร…ให้ยึดข้อตกลงดังกล่าวเป็นสำคัญ — other terms from the font’s owner take priority when they appear on the download page, or in a document file bundled with the font. The name table is neither of those two things. The download page states the grant, and the archive contains no document at all.

Our reading: the release-page grant governs, and iannnnnTKO is free for commercial use. That is a reading and not legal advice. For a high-value or high-risk use — a national campaign, a logotype, a product you will manufacture — ask the designer through the f0nt.com forum first, which the licence page points to. The category badge itself carries the same caution, in the site’s own words: most fonts run on the standard site licence, แต่ก็มีบางฟอนต์ที่กำหนดเป็นอย่างอื่น ขอให้ตั้งใจอ่านจะได้ไม่งงจ้ะ — but some fonts set other terms, so read carefully.

What the letterforms actually do

iannnnnTKO is heavy looped Thai — the หัว is present on every consonant that takes one, but it is drawn as a solid blob rather than an open ring, which is what lets the face survive being blown up to fill a panel. The strokes are thick and blunt, the counters are small, and nothing about it is regular.

From the binary:

Two measurable defects survive in the shipping file, and both are worth knowing before you put it in a production pipeline:

• The glyph sara_uee carries an advance width of 65535. That is 2¹⁶ − 1, the unsigned representation of −1, so a negative width has been written into a field that cannot hold one. fontTools flags it on load: “Glyph sara_uee has a huge advance width (65535); is it intentional or an (invalid) negative value?” The mark สระอือ is common in Thai, so if a tool ever honours that number literally rather than clamping it, the damage is visible.
• The OS/2 typographic descender is positive. sTypoDescender is recorded as +915 where the same value appears correctly as −915 in hhea.descent. A layout engine that reads the OS/2 typo metrics and honours the sign will compute the wrong line box.

Neither prevents the font from installing or rendering in ordinary use — half a million people have downloaded it — but they are the reason it should be treated as a display asset, not a system font. Try your own line in the Thai font tester before committing.

Thai script behaviour: complete coverage, no shaping at all

The Thai coverage is complete — every assigned codepoint from U+0E01 to U+0E5B is in the cmap with zero gaps, all ten Thai digits ๐–๙ included — but iannnnnTKO has no GSUB, no GPOS, no GDEF and no kern table, so there is no OpenType shaping in this font whatsoever. Not for Thai, and not for Latin either. It is the only file in the 2005 series with none of the four.

Thai still stacks correctly, because the marks are drawn where they sit and given zero advance width: U+0E31 ไม้หันอากาศ, U+0E34 สระอิ, U+0E38 สระอุ, U+0E48 ไม้เอก and U+0E49 ไม้โท all measure 0. They overlay the preceding consonant by construction. That fixed geometry is what the shared Naipol encoding template bought Thai designers in 2005 — a font that behaved the same in Photoshop and in Microsoft Word — and it is why this font works at all without a shaping table.

The cost is the same cost the whole series pays. There is only one height for a tone mark, so ไม้เอก over a tall consonant such as ป, ฝ, ฟ or ฬ sits where it was drawn and cannot be lowered by the shaper. In a sound-effect face nobody will notice. In body text they would. Keep it in display Thai fonts territory and set your text in one of the free Thai fonts built for it.

The Latin is real, incidentally, not borrowed: 26 capitals, 26 lowercase and 10 Western digits with their own outlines. For a comic face that matters, because English effects — CRASH, BAM — are set in the same lettering as often as Thai ones.

Is the name TKO explained anywhere?

No. f0nt.com publishes no naming explanation for iannnnnTKO, and this page will not invent one. TKO reads in English as the boxing abbreviation for a technical knockout, and the font is a punch-and-crash face, so the fit is obvious — but the designer never says that on the release page, in the site’s About page, or in either of the published interviews with him. Obvious is not the same as sourced.

The series as a whole uses one naming device: the designer’s handle plus a three-letter uppercase acronym drawn from the media and technology vocabulary of 2005 Thailand. Some fit their designs. At least one is arbitrary by his own written admission. For most, including this one, no explanation exists in print. Where a competitor listicle tells you these fonts are named after broadcasters, that is filler. The complete accounting of what he actually said about naming is on the iannnnn hub.

Its 2022 successor: iannnnn-TIGER

The release page itself points forward. The note reads ฟอนต์ iannnnnTKO อัปเดตเวอร์ชันใหม่ล่าสุดเมื่อปี 2022 ในชื่อ “ฟอนต์เสือ” (iannnnn-TIGER) ปรับปรุงภายในใหม่ มีหลายน้ำหนักด้วย ไปโหลดกันได้ ใช้ฟรีเหมือนเดิมครับ — iannnnnTKO was updated in 2022 under the name ฟอนต์เสือ, iannnnn-TIGER, rebuilt internally, with multiple weights, still free.

We report his words and stop there: he says ปรับปรุงภายในใหม่, rebuilt internally, and we have not verified whether TIGER redraws TKO’s outlines or is an independent design. ThaiGraph does not yet hold a page for iannnnn-TIGER. What we do hold from the designer’s later, modern-workflow era is the animal series — iannnnn-HEN and iannnnn-MONKEY among them — and those are the fonts to reach for when you want the same voice with real weight axes and current shaping tables. Where to download iannnnnTKO

Download it from the iannnnnTKO release page on f0nt.com — that is the only source the licence permits anyone to point you at. The page’s button resolves to https://www.f0nt.com/?dl_name=iannnnn/2005_iannnnnTKO.zip and redirects to the file. Downloaded on 29 August 2026 it delivered a 16,845-byte archive containing exactly one file, 2005_iannnnnTKO.ttf. That is small even for a single-weight face, and the outlines are most of the reason: the file carries 223 glyphs against iannnnnSOS’s 238, and far simpler drawing. Of the 83,752-byte gap between the two TTFs, glyf alone accounts for 60,956 bytes — about three quarters — while the four missing layout tables (GSUB, GPOS, GDEF and kern) total 16,360 bytes, roughly a fifth.

There is no licence document in the archive — no LICENSE, no OFL.txt, no README. The terms live on the release page and on f0nt.com’s licence page, not in the zip. Install it the ordinary way: unzip, then right-click the .ttf and choose Install on Windows, or double-click and choose Install Font in Font Book on macOS.

What to pair iannnnnTKO with

Use it for one to five characters at a time. This is an effects face, and it stops working the moment it has to behave like type. Where it fits:

• comic and manga sound effects, in Thai or Latin
• poster and cover words that need to feel like an impact
• sports, gaming, gym and combat-sport titling
• kids’ and youth packaging, event art, sticker and merch lettering

Where it does not fit: body copy, subheads, UI labels, captions, forms, anything institutional, and anything set small — the blobbed loops fill in and the word turns to a smudge. Set every running line in Sarabun and let TKO carry only the noise.

For a rougher hand from the same month with a different kind of energy, iannnnnSOS is the scratchy ballpoint face. For drama with calligraphic contrast instead of blunt weight, Srisakdi is the obvious alternative. Neighbours are indexed at display Thai fonts and looped Thai fonts.
